Garden with Insight v1.0 Help: Weather next day functions: generate today's solar radiation

This function generates solar radiation for today.

If the "simulated" option for solar radiation is chosen: Today's solar radiation will be randomly chosen from a normal distribution. The standard deviation for the normal distribution is calculated from the maximum possible radiation that could reach the earth's surface today for this climate. The maximum possible radiation depends on the latitude and the day of the year. The standard deviation is defined as one-quarter of the difference between the maximum possible radiation and the mean radiation (for today). A number is randomly drawn from a normal distibution having the mean already calculated for today and this standard deviation. The value is then adjusted for autocorrelation using the autocorrelation matrix.

If the "always 10.0" option for solar radiation is chosen: The solar radiation is set at ten MJ/m2 (megajoules per square meter). If the "smoothed" option for solar radiation is chosen: The solar radiation is set at the smoothed long-term average. The adjustment for yesterday's rain is ignored. If the "unchanging" option for solar radiation is chosen: The solar radiation stays the same as it was yesterday.
