Using an alternate settings file

You can specify an alternate settings file (or no settings file) on the command line for PlantStudio. Normally you will not need to do this, but there may be circumstances where you can't or don't want to save your settings file in your Windows directory.

To create a shortcut for PlantStudio with a special command line in Windows 95/NT,

Click the Windows Start button, then choose Settings, then Taskbar.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Click the Start Menu Programs tab.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Click Add.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Click Browse and select PlantStudio.exe in the PlantStudio directory.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif In the edit box where the PlantStudio file name (with path) has just appeared, add an extra parameter, separated from the program name by a space, as follows.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif To specify an alternate settings file, add the parameter /i=file name. If the file name or directory has a space in it, you MUST put quotes around the whole parameter. For example,

C:\PlantStudio\PlantStudio.exe "/i=c:\MyPlants\PlantStudio Special.ini”

gif/plantstudio00090000.gif To specify no settings file, add just /i. For example,

C:\PlantStudio\PlantStudio.exe /i

gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Click Next.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Choose a folder to place the shortcut in, then click Next.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Type a name for the shortcut. Make sure you give it a name that reminds you that you are using a special settings file or no settings file.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Click Finish.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Close the Taskbar Properties window.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Try out your shortcut.

To change an existing shortcut in Windows 95/NT,

Click the Windows Start button, then choose Settings, then Taskbar.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Click the Start Menu Programs tab.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Click Advanced. The Windows Explorer will open to the area where the shortcuts are stored.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Find the shortcut you want to change.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Select the shortcut and choose Properties from the popup menu or from the Explorer File menu.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif In the Properties dialog, click the Shortcut tab.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Change the text in the Target box.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Click OK.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Try out the shortcut.

To remove a shortcut in Windows 95/NT,

Click the Windows Start button, then choose Settings, then Taskbar.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Click the Start Menu Programs tab.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Click Remove.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Find the shortcut, then click Remove.
gif/plantstudio00090000.gif Click Close to close the Remove window, then click Cancel to close the Taskbar Properties window.
