Garden with Insight v1.0 Help: Soil patch next day functions: calculate the amount of nitrate that entered the soil in rainfall

If it rained today or if snow melted today, an amount of nitrate is added to the top soil layer based on a parameter for the concentration of nitrate in rainfall. If the water being added is snowmelt, we assume that the nitrate was held in the snow. Nitrate in rainfall comes from atmospheric N2 fixed by lightning and from other nitrogenous compounds from automobile exhaust and other sources. Usually the amounts of nitrate that enter the soil in rainfall are small but not insignificant.
