Garden with Insight v1.0 Help: waterlogged

Waterlogged soil is completely saturated with water, so that all (or nearly all) of the soil's pore spaces are filled with water. If you think of soil like a sponge, a waterlogged soil is like a sponge immersed in water. Waterlogged soils have little or no air (thus oxygen) in them. This anoxic condition causes problems with plant roots (they need oxygen to respire) and aerobic bacteria. Anaerobic bacteria thrive in these conditions, however, and they can denitrify the labile (plant-available) nitrate in the soil to ammonium ions, which acidify the soil by exchanging with H+ ions from cation exchange sites in soil clay.
